The thought stayed with me and a few years later came to fruition when lying in a hospital bed, I got my laptop out and just began typing. I had no plan, no prepared story or even idea, just a mental picture of a young racer lining up on the grid of his first race and the desire to tell his story, no holds barred, warts and all. Follow them through every corner, every flag, fight, and party. You’ll laugh and you’ll gasp. I hope you enjoy it.

In 2003 Deno Chapman, an aircraft engineer from the English East Midlands joined the adrenaline-filled, hedonistic world of motorcycle racing. He raced Formula 400cc and GP250 classes at club and national level and quickly built up a loyal fan-base for his humorous post-race blog, if not for his actual racing! Over the next few years the trophies began to mount, unfortunately though, not as fast as his numerous visits to hospital A&E departments. Indeed it was lying in a Bangor hospital bed, high on a second dose of (cunningly blagged) morphine, being held down by nurses while the doctor reattached his left foot, that the eureka moment hit, and he decided to begin typing The Racers.
